CD Review: She And Him

Artist: She And Him
Album: Vol. 2
Worth Buying: Every Track
You will be interested in this album if you are a fan of: Early 60’s, oldies, pop, & indie folk.

Tell Me More: Robert is covering this album on the show, so I am giving my written review here. I remember when Vol. 1 came out and everyone was very excited about it. I had a lot of people telling me it was on their list of favorites for the year. I listened to Vol. 1 but found myself feeling indifferent.

Not so with Vol. 2. in spite of not being turned on by Vol.1, I went to Amazon and listened to their 30 second samples (generally I listen to these first just to get an idea if I want to hear more). The 30 second samples alone won me over!

Vol. 2 is like discovering a lost vinyl record of lost pop hits from the early 60’s. There are two covers songs, and Zooey Daschanel writes all the rest of the songs and plays piano. M Ward (last mentioned here from the Monsters of Folk album) Plays the majority of the rest of the instruments and produces.

There is a cool and breezy feeling to this album. I describe it best like a lazy Sunday afternoon (remember those?) with nothing to do but take a relaxing drive down the highway. This is one of the most fun and
unpretentious albums I have listened to in a while.

What about the packaging? The Cd comes in a 4 panel digipack whose beautiful design echos the first album. The lyrics booklet is designed to look like a library check out card.
