Fooling Bono

 

 

 

It's been a while since I had a music related dream that featured a famous co-star

I had this dream on monday night on 05/11/09. 

 

I dreamed I was at a party. U2 was there and so was Comedian Robin Williams.

Robin Williams walks up to me and asks me how good my Irish accent is. I tell him I am terrible at it. He says that that is better than him, and he tells me that he wants me to take part in a harmless prank.

He wants me to dress up as Bono (he has an outfit, a hat and some glasses). He tells me that Bono is outside, and he will be walking up to the house and that it will be very dark out (which is why I guess he feels the disguise will work). The joke is that I will go to Bono and tell him that I am Bono from the future. I am going to warn him of the music industries imminent collapse and advise him that the only way to keep his band on the charts is to switch to heavy metal music.

I think it's a good gag too, So I go along with it. Once disguised I go out and confront Bono. Bono smiles in amusement and thinks the gag is pretty funny too.

Suddenly, I am holding a press conference as the fake Bono. I am telling the press about U2's plans to switch to Heavy Metal. The press is totally buying into it.

Bono is there too and he is astounded that none of the press see through my disguise. At one point he asks them "Haven't you noticed how fake is accent is"?

The press is clueless to what he is implying and completely ignores him.

Anyone can be KISS

According to Music Connection magazine: Rock group Kiss is rumored to be planning to launch a reality series to recruit 4 new members for KISS. This will be the New Kiss, and would be done in an American Idol style competition.

To be honest, this doesn't surprise me.

I think that Kiss has always gotten a bad rap because of the make up and costumes. But one thing that the band has always understood is a good solid musical hook. Also, original lead guitarist Ace Frehley was a big influence on my own guitar playing. And that is why I have a lot of their music in my ipod.

But does anyone remember when Kiss where the demons of rock? 

Now they've become the Menudo of Rock.

I wonder if I should audition for the part of Ace? 

Music Worth Buying - 11/16/08 - Motley Crue

Tell Me More: Motley Crue was one of those bands that lost it's way for a number of years. But now they have made an album that actually sounds like they are hungry. This is probably one of the best albums they have done since Too Fast For Love and Shout At the Devil. I wouldn't say that it's right up with those two, but it's damn close.

The album opens with a little spoken word piece that sounds a bit too much like the opening of Shout At the Devil. for that reason I skip this track on repeated listenings.  For the first 5 songs the album just kicks ass.  Whats more the first 5 songs are almost like a mini little concept album, with the band chonicling their early years of struggle. I kept thinking that this was their eqivalent to Elton John's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album. In the album's opener Face Down in the Dirt, the band sings about the rebelliousness of youth with so much conviction, that I really felt myself getting in touch again with my inner 18 year old again.

i wanna make a lot of money
but i don't wanna go to school
i don't wanna get a real job
i don't wanna be you

I'd rather be dead, yeah I'd rather be dead

The remaining songs deal with the decedent heavy metal lifestyle that was prevalent back in the 80's. These remaining tracks are good, but for me none of them where on the same level of intensity and passion as the albums first five songs. Of these remaining songs, I deleted two off my play list. Track 10 Chicks = Trouble and the closing track Going Out Swinging.  For me the album became immediately stronger once I did. But with only two tracks that I didn't enjoy this is a pretty strong album. This is aggressive Hard Rock with strong chorus's, but not Pop or Pop metal. One other thing that I want to bring up is Singer Vince Neil's diction. There are no lyrics included but I was able to understand the lyrics with no problem. I went back and listened to Shout at the Devil to make a comparison and found that clearly the man has done something to improve his enunciation's.

What about the packaging?  Standard Jewell case. It comes with a sleeve cover, but the sleeve cover offers no additional artwork.  The insert is a fold out poster.
